11 November is Poland’s National Independence Day celebrating independence after the First World War and we celebrate it a few days early with Polish conductor, Agata Zając and Wagner’s Polonia.
After that curtain-raiser we have the delights of Elgar’s Sea Pictures sung this evening by the stellar mezzo-soprano, Kathryn Rudge who recorded the work recently with the RLPO and Petrenko.
Then after Swedish composer Larsson’s sweetly yearning, poignant incidental music for Shakespeare’s Winter’s Tale, we move to the drama, romance and spectacle of Prokofiev’s coruscating ballet music for Romeo and Juliet.
